Isabelle’s Portrait Session

I could tell from the get-go that Isabelle was super excited about having her portrait session! She showed up to my home studio in a beautiful white, black, and yellow summer dress with a yellow flower clip holding her hair back and another lovely red dress to model in for later in the shoot. She brought along her little cousin, her mother, and her aunt, who all were very fun and helpful!

Isabelle is my first test model for a flower-girl dress session that I’m going to be doing very soon. You can find details on it here: Casting Call

In this first shot, I had Isabelle’s aunt holding my new Westcott Omega Reflector in front of my off-camera Canon 430EX II Speedlite to act as a diffuser. We got some really nice, soft light.

In this second shot, I used a homemade light consisting of some PVC pipe and an LED flashlight that provided was really intimate beauty light.

Both these images were edited by using a combination of a LOT of dodging and burning, Emily Soto‘s Fashion Actions for her skin, and some of Greater Than Gatsby‘s actions for some help on her tones.

Mermaid Sighted in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia!

So…

There I was, just minding my own business on our vacation. A couple of those mornings during a whole week at St. Simon’s Island, I went on early morning strolls (say, around 6:30).

I was walking along, when up on the shore swam this little mermaid!

I know…

You think I’m crazy. But I assure you…

I’m not crazy.

And here’s my proof! How adorable is she??

A
fter chatting with the mermaid, she was able to tell me where she got her lovely crocheted suit! She would like to thank Amazon for providing such a beautiful product and bringing it straight to the sea!

She apologizes, however, for the interesting tidal system they have going on there at St. Simon’s. For future reference, the best times to come to the beach are in the early mornings and evenings if you want the tide to be in and make the walk down the sand a little shorter. You can tell your delivery guys. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Okay, in all seriousness, that’s my daughter in those photos. But I’m sure you already knew that 🙂

LightStalking Features Me! Humbled…

Forgive me if I seem to get way too excited when I find an example of a company or blogger using my images from Flickr. It’s just an HONOR!

I was browsing around and found one of my images of Hannah, who I have worked with several times on different projects. In this image, she modeled for me on a catalog project that I was working on for her sister’s clothing boutique, The Bluegrass Boutique

(Check them out! They have great deals on women’s fashion, and you would be supporting a local Kentucky business!) 😉

I think Hannah would be flattered that she was featured on a blog, so here’s the image:

Check it out in the midst of the blog post here: LightStalking.com
The main reason this made me so flattered and stinkin’ excited is because it was used by a photography blog as an example of good, quality portrait lighting! I aspire to that in every shoot I do, so to be given a virtual high-five like that from a good group of photographers is quite the humbling experience!

I encourage you to visit LightStalking.com to learn more about how you can improve your lighting. They have articles that can help and encourage photographers on differing levels of experience!

And thanks for reading!

Portrait Session with Austin

I had the awesome opportunity a couple weeks ago to photograph some portraits of Austin!

I photographed his little sister, Madeline, a couple years ago. I’m honored that their parents continue to use me for their photography needs!

So, without further ado, here are some sweet sneak peeks of Mr. Austin. And, yes, that’s his fedora… which he rocks solidly._MG_8821bw _MG_8830bw _MG_8837 _MG_8853 _MG_8861 _MG_8863 _MG_8871 _MG_8874 _MG_8876

Casting Call

Exciting news is afoot!

Wallao.com is a store in Los Angeles that specializes in flower-girl dresses and tuxedos for ring-bearers. They have asked me to shoot some work of one of their featured dresses! (You can find them here: Wallao.com.

And I’m super stoked!

So with that in mind, I’m putting out a casting call!

Here’s who I’m looking for:

  • Girl, between ages 7 and 10.
  • Fun personality!
  • Takes direction well.
  • Loves to twirl dresses!

At the casting, we’ll shoot a few headshots, and just hang out for a bit and see how she does taking direction in front of the camera! It will involve signing a model release, and I will feature all the casting models on the blog and Facebook page!

The little girl that I select for the shoot will be featured on Wallao.com and will have her photos from our dress session used for their advertising purposes. Sound fun yet?? 🙂

Anyone who is interested can send me a little bit of information about their little model, including their full name, why they would be the best at it, a little bit about their personality, and a recent photo.

Please send this info to tmarsee530@students.sbts.edu and we will talk about casting! Include your email address, please.
