First Editing Video

Facebook Live has taken the world by storm (or so it seems), and the possibilities of what can be accomplished with it are undoubtedly still in the freshest stages. Such an awesome new medium tends to get us all excited and bouncy about what it can do — sort of like the latest gadget.

In the spirit of Facebook Live’s ingenuity, I created a [very not-ingenuous] video of my photo-editing process in which I put on full display exactly how I edit a typical portrait. Below is the finished image from that editing video._MG_9705 copy

To Wear or Not to Wear?

When it comes to clothes for toddlers, I sort of regret our past. Those of us who were born in the ’80s and grew up in the ’90s all have some things in common in most professional photos taken of us (I’ll only talk about dudes here, since that’s my experience!):

  1. Knee Socks. No need to go crazy here, but for all those ’80s moms out there — WHY? Didn’t you like our cushy leg rolls? Why cover them with two feet of thin, itchy lengths of the thinnest material known to mankind? It’s not like my legs are already super short. Why emphasize it? Sheesh.
  2. Giant Collars. Ok, this one was kind of cool as far as it went. But I’m not talking about those ’70s collars with the bright purple paisley print. I’m talking about those neck-wrapping deals that looked like they came right out of a painting of Henry VIII. Were those in style?
  3. Shorty Shorts. No need. Just no need.

See what I’m saying? I have some questions to ask my mother…

Little boys today have it MADE! Just walk into any Janie & Jack store to see how awesome little dude clothes have become. I admit, I’m a little jealous.

And I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to photograph a couple outfits for one of these awesome-outfit stores! Lucy & Leo is based out of New York, and they make wonderful outfits for kiddos out of recycled materials! Here’s a blurb straight from their website:

“Lucy & Leo organic clothing is known for its soft color palate and classic design with a modern twist. As our brand grows, we stay true to our vision of creating unique, adorable and comfortable outfits for your child in an eco-friendly fashion. We are proud to be one of the first organic and USA-made clothing brands in the children’s industry.

Our mission is simple: to provide your child with the finest, highest quality clothing on the market. Our garments move and breathe, are durable and very comfortable.

Lucy & Leo garments are designed and manufactured in New York. We are committed,  to bettering the world. We do that in three basic ways. We manufacture in the USA to support our local economy. We use only environmentally sensitive and organic materials, and for every garment purchased, we plant a tree with Trees For the Future.”

So there ya go! It was my pleasure to photograph Amos, who was adorably representing Lucy & Leo in this styled shoot:

The Cahills

I thought I would use this snowy day indoors to continue updating all of you on some of my sessions from 2015! It’s my goal to blog about each one that I haven’t written about before, so if I miss anyone, feel free to send me a message.

These are the Cahills, and they called me to photograph their newborn baby boy, Frankie. I fell in love with their session, and I hope you enjoy these highlights! If you’re interested in having your family’s memories captured, send me a message on Facebook (http://facebook.com/timothymarseephotography).

Have a great snow day, everyone!

The Hamiltons

We love the Hamiltons so much! They’re such great, amazing friends, and I’m honored that they allowed me to create some memories with them for their first family session after having moved to Kentucky! I hope you enjoy these favorites of mine from their shoot 🙂

Feel free to share and leave some comments! If you would like to schedule a session for your family, send me a message via my Facebook page (http://facebook.com/timothymarseephotography).

The Brainard Family

We LOVE THE BRAINARDS! Ben leads worship at our church, and we have grown to love and appreciate his family so much! We went out to Cherokee Park to take these photos of them not too long ago, and I wanted to share some of my faves! We used an off-camera flash diffused with a softball for most of these. Let me know what you think!

The Sherer Family

We had such a fun time hanging out with Ethan, Jennifer, and Jaden on the grounds of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for their summer family session! Lindsay provided some beautiful reflected light with my Westcott Omega Reflector (as always — great job, babe!), and despite the crazy humidity outside that day, I think the three of them did amazing. Let us know what you think about their portraits in the comments! 🙂

The Gardner Family

I’m a little late on blogging this family’s beautiful portrait session, but I just couldn’t wait any longer! Shooting, editing, and babysitting my little one have consumed quite a bit of time (which is A-OK, btw!), but I’ve finally found some time to sit down, write a little bit about people that Lindsay and I have grown to love, and share their photos with you.

So, without further ado, I bring you Cody, Ashley, and little Grayson! Feel free to leave some comments! 🙂

Model Tests

I recently had three young models test with me to see which one I wanted to use for a flower girl dress story that I’m going to shoot for a boutique in Los Angeles later this year. All of them did awesome, and I wanted to show you some of my favorites from their sessions! Let me know what you think! 🙂 Also, a special shout-out to Ella, Isabelle, and Georgia and their mothers for being so awesome!

Mermaid Sighted in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia!

So…

There I was, just minding my own business on our vacation. A couple of those mornings during a whole week at St. Simon’s Island, I went on early morning strolls (say, around 6:30).

I was walking along, when up on the shore swam this little mermaid!

I know…

You think I’m crazy. But I assure you…

I’m not crazy.

And here’s my proof! How adorable is she??

A
fter chatting with the mermaid, she was able to tell me where she got her lovely crocheted suit! She would like to thank Amazon for providing such a beautiful product and bringing it straight to the sea!

She apologizes, however, for the interesting tidal system they have going on there at St. Simon’s. For future reference, the best times to come to the beach are in the early mornings and evenings if you want the tide to be in and make the walk down the sand a little shorter. You can tell your delivery guys. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Okay, in all seriousness, that’s my daughter in those photos. But I’m sure you already knew that 🙂

The Bugle Family

It’s always a tremendous honor when somebody books you for their portraits over and over!

I had my first session with Megan when she was building her modeling portfolio back in somewhere around 2008 or 2009. If you’re curious, here’s one of the more popular photos from that fateful session: Megan Headshot. There are a couple more from that session right next to it in my Flickr feed, as well.

And then, a couple years down the road, she called me to do her maternity photos! Here’s one of those: Megan Maternity.

And now, here are some sneak peeks from my most recent session with her family! Enjoy!
