The Pose You Can’t Do Without

When I shoot maternity, I have one pose that I always do. I’m not sure if it’s my absolute favorite — “absolute” is a very strong, absolute word — but it’s certainly up there.

I call it: (*drum roll*) The Heart of Warmliness.

I know, it’s a cheesy name. But I’m a cheesy guy. But that pose is timeless!

See how the outlines of Mom’s arm, their heads together, and then Dad’s arm makes a heart shape?

I love it. And I always shoot it.

I’ve even told myself, Nah, I’m not going to shoot it this time. I always do it. But then, I do it. And I love it. Every time.

I don’t even need to explain to you how to pose it. It’s so simple, elegant, and easy to do.

So go ahead. Get out there. Put that Baby Bump in the middle, surround it with Mom and Dad, and rock that Heart of Warmliness! In fact, I would LOVE to see your interpretations of it! Please post them to my Facebook page (http://facebook.com/timothymarseephotography).

And below, I’ve included a slideshow of some more of my favorites from this session with Noel, Andrew, and Hattie.

The Cahills

I thought I would use this snowy day indoors to continue updating all of you on some of my sessions from 2015! It’s my goal to blog about each one that I haven’t written about before, so if I miss anyone, feel free to send me a message.

These are the Cahills, and they called me to photograph their newborn baby boy, Frankie. I fell in love with their session, and I hope you enjoy these highlights! If you’re interested in having your family’s memories captured, send me a message on Facebook (http://facebook.com/timothymarseephotography).

Have a great snow day, everyone!

The Hamiltons

We love the Hamiltons so much! They’re such great, amazing friends, and I’m honored that they allowed me to create some memories with them for their first family session after having moved to Kentucky! I hope you enjoy these favorites of mine from their shoot 🙂

Model Tests

I recently had three young models test with me to see which one I wanted to use for a flower girl dress story that I’m going to shoot for a boutique in Los Angeles later this year. All of them did awesome, and I wanted to show you some of my favorites from their sessions! Let me know what you think! 🙂 Also, a special shout-out to Ella, Isabelle, and Georgia and their mothers for being so awesome!

Isabelle’s Portrait Session

I could tell from the get-go that Isabelle was super excited about having her portrait session! She showed up to my home studio in a beautiful white, black, and yellow summer dress with a yellow flower clip holding her hair back and another lovely red dress to model in for later in the shoot. She brought along her little cousin, her mother, and her aunt, who all were very fun and helpful!

Isabelle is my first test model for a flower-girl dress session that I’m going to be doing very soon. You can find details on it here: Casting Call

In this first shot, I had Isabelle’s aunt holding my new Westcott Omega Reflector in front of my off-camera Canon 430EX II Speedlite to act as a diffuser. We got some really nice, soft light.

In this second shot, I used a homemade light consisting of some PVC pipe and an LED flashlight that provided was really intimate beauty light.

Both these images were edited by using a combination of a LOT of dodging and burning, Emily Soto‘s Fashion Actions for her skin, and some of Greater Than Gatsby‘s actions for some help on her tones.

Portrait Session with Austin

I had the awesome opportunity a couple weeks ago to photograph some portraits of Austin!

I photographed his little sister, Madeline, a couple years ago. I’m honored that their parents continue to use me for their photography needs!

So, without further ado, here are some sweet sneak peeks of Mr. Austin. And, yes, that’s his fedora… which he rocks solidly._MG_8821bw _MG_8830bw _MG_8837 _MG_8853 _MG_8861 _MG_8863 _MG_8871 _MG_8874 _MG_8876

The Bugle Family

It’s always a tremendous honor when somebody books you for their portraits over and over!

I had my first session with Megan when she was building her modeling portfolio back in somewhere around 2008 or 2009. If you’re curious, here’s one of the more popular photos from that fateful session: Megan Headshot. There are a couple more from that session right next to it in my Flickr feed, as well.

And then, a couple years down the road, she called me to do her maternity photos! Here’s one of those: Megan Maternity.

And now, here are some sneak peeks from my most recent session with her family! Enjoy!

Introducing… Little Miss Ellington!

I love, love, LOVE photographing newborn babies. I can’t explain it, so I won’t go into a diatribe about all the reasons why newborns are the cutest things in the world. We KNOW this!

So I was HONORED when Brennan and Erica asked me to photograph Ellington.

I photographed her older brother, Gentry, for his second birthday. You may recall this adorable little face: A Boy + and His Dog.

Being asked to continue to serve a client by photographing their family as they grow together is a huge blessing. Many thanks to Brennan and Erica! 🙂

I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed shooting/editing them!

My Daughter’s (Extremely Belated) Easter Session

How does the saying go? The cobbler’s children had no shoes?

I completely agree. Only I’m not a cobbler — I’m a photographer.

The photographer’s children has no photos!

How many of you fellow photogs out there can relate to this? You spend so much of your time photographing other people that when you’re not photographing someone, your camera (which you spent a good deal of money on) sits in the bag unused until your next session.

That’s my experience.

So, over two months after Easter 2015 has come and gone, I finally get around to editing my daughter’s Easter photos. And I’ve included my favorites for you here.

I hope you enjoy!

I’ve Been Featured!

I did what all well-meaning people do: I searched my name in Google’s search bar to see what came up. Who hasn’t done that every now and then?

And I noticed a few things…

The first couple of entries were from Facebook posts. Facebook seems to almost run the world these days, doesn’t it?? But I discovered that some of these posts were pretty trivial. I wasn’t searching myself to see that I was really into a particular meal that I ate at a certain Mexican restaurant in 2008. Which I was…

So I kept scrolling down.

And I noticed that one of my engagement photos had been featured on an engagement photography blog!

Now, that’s exciting! Somebody saw my work on Flickr (check out my Flickr page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tmarsee530), liked it, and put it alongside several others that I happen to really like! It’s an honor to be included among such wonderful photographers.

I’m excited for you to see it… So go look! It’s called “Kissing at Sunset,” and it features my brother- and sister-in-law, Brad and Sarah.

And take a look at some of the other photos! They’re all really great. You can find the link here: 20 Beautiful Engagement Photos
